SUBJECTOpen Records Act PURPOSETo provide information regarding fees agencies may charge for providing access to or copies of public records. AUTHORITATIVE REFERENCESK.S.A. 45-215 et seq., as amended GENERAL INFORMATIONIntroduction The Kansas Open Records Act specifies requirements for providing access to or copies of public records of a public agency. The Act defines public records and specifies which records are not required to be open. It also requires each agency to adopt procedures to be followed in responding to requests for access to or copies of public records. Fees for Access to or Copies of Public Records K.S.A. 45-218 and 45-219 allow agencies to charge reasonable fees for providing access to or furnishing copies of public records. Except as provided where fees for inspection or for copies of a public record are prescribed by statute, each agency may prescribe reasonable fees for providing access to or furnishing copies of public records subject to the following:
