DISC Bureau Descriptions Overview:
The Division of Information Systems & Communications (DISC) is responsible for providing efficient and effective electronic information processing and technical management services to all state agencies. These services include data processing, voice and data telecommunications, and video communications. In addition, DISC is responsible for providing efficient and effective mail services for all Capitol Complex Area agencies.
DISC is comprised of 5 bureaus:
Bureau of Administrative Services (BAS) The Bureau of Administrative Services provides support functions to the division for office services, personnel administration, financial accounting, payments and acquisitions, contract administration, budgeting, and customer billing for services. In addition, the bureau develops rates and publishes for DISC provided services. The bureau manages Central Mail Services for Topeka-based agencies and updates and publishes the statewide telephone directory. Customers should direct questions concerning rates and charges to this bureau.
Bureau of Customer Services (BOCS) The Bureau of Customer Services provides microcomputer, local area network, mainframe, and telecommunications support to its customers. Also, provides assistance to state agencies, local units of government, school districts, and others in defining telecommunications and networking requirements and installation services. The Small Agency Support section provides IT support to Kansas' agencies and licensing boards.

of Department of Administration Systems (BDAS)
The Bureau of Department
of Administration Systems provides technical services and support for Department of
Administration information systems. The bureau provides data processing support for STARS
(the state accounting system) and SHaRP (the state personnel and payroll system).

of Information Systems (BIS)
The Bureau of Information
Systems is responsible for operating and managing the state's central data centers,
providing mainframe and client/server computing services for all state agencies. The
bureau operates an Amdahl mainframe to provide central data processing services, and a UNIX
processing center for the support of client/server applications including the Statewide
Human Resources and Payroll (SHARP) system.
Bureau
of Telecommunications(BOT)
The Bureau of
Telecommunications provides, monitors and manages local and long distance
telecommunications services for all state agencies and units of local government. Services
include - but are not limited to - voice, data, video, image, facsimile and wireless
services. In addition, the bureau provides technical assistance to state agencies
regarding the design, configuration and use of telecommunications systems, facilities and
services. The bureau coordinates the selection, procurement, and installation of
telecommunications systems and equipment.
