Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Who is eligible to order from a state contract?

A:   Vendors doing business with the state of Kansas have the option of allowing their pricing to be made available to other governmental agencies.  State contracts that are noted as being available for political subdivision can be used by non-state governmental agencies, such as cities, counties, school districts, etc.  To see if your organization qualifies, contact the state Division of Purchases (http://da.ks.gov/purch/) via e-mail at purchweb@da.ks.gov.

Q:  Why is the state of Kansas interested in having us order from their contracts?

A:   The state of Kansas purchases millions of dollars worth of hardware and software on a yearly basis.  This buying power allows the state to negotiate better prices with vendors than can be obtained from a retail store.  By increasing the number of buyers using the state’s contracts, the state can negotiate even better pricing for all users.

Q:  What if I’ve checked the state contract prices but I find I can get a better price elsewhere?

A:   The state is always interested in finding the lowest priced vendors to do business with.  If you know of a vendor or vendors who can beat the state’s contract prices, please let us know by contacting the Division of Purchases at purchweb@da.ks.gov.

Q:  Are there any guidelines that we can follow to assist us with our IT purchases?

A:   Yes, see the Best Practices section below with links to several documents designed to assist with IT purchases.

Q:  What if I have special needs that I can’t find below?

A:   The Division of Purchases has a contracts search engine that provides links to all state contracts.  You may access the search engine at http://da.ks.gov/purch/contracts/Contract.asp
