Job Description:

The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) currently has an unclassified Pre-Employment Transition Specialist (PETS) position in the Rehabilitation Services Division. This position is located in the El Dorado Service Center.  The starting salary for this position is $36,171.20 annually.

As a PETS Transition Specialist you will provide required services, which include conducting outreach activities for school personnel and students with disabilities and their family members.  You will participate in the development of transition Individual Education Plans (IEP) as appropriate and available.  The PETS Transition Specialist will establish, maintain, and utilize collaborative relationships with school district personnel, local workforce development youth programs, service providers, and advocates as needed to ensure preferred outcomes for PETS eligible students with disabilities.

Minimum Requirements:  Five years of experience interviewing, investigating, compiling information, documenting decisions, interpreting guidelines and /or providing technical assistance relevant to the agency’s programs.  Post-secondary education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Criteria:  Successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree and demonstrated experience working with students, youth, and adults with disabilities to achieve employment, independent living, and/or maximum self-reliance.

Security Clearance: A background check (KBI – criminal background, welfare fraud, driver’s license, and Child/Adult Abuse and Neglect Central Registry) is required for all positions with the Department for Children and Families (DCF) as a condition of employment, which may include fingerprinting and FBI check.  Security clearance must be obtained prior to employment with DCF.
