Job Description:

Radiochemistry Lab Manager (K0228290) in the Kansas Health & Environmental Laboratories

We are seeking a talented, dynamic individual to manage the Radiochemistry Lab at the Kansas Health & Environmental Laboratories. This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a natural science field. Management and radiochemistry analysis experience is preferred. Job training will be provided.
Supervise and provide technical leadership for research and development of methodology for analysis of samples within the radiochemistry and chemical preparedness units. Implement that methodology to be performed by the staff within the radiochemistry and preparedness units including training and technical assistance. Monitor work, assign duties, and review staff performance to ensure timely accurate results. Evaluate performance of personnel and participate in the recruitment, interview, and selection process for employees under the direct supervision of this position. The Environment Section is comprised of Inorganic, Organic, and Radiochemistry units; this position will assist, collaborate and serve as backup to the organic and inorganic chemistry units.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a Natural Science field with a minimum of 25 hours chemistry and 1 year experience in chemistry.

Preferred Criteria: 
• Master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or radiochemistry
• Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, or radiochemistry
• Two years of experience in planning, organizing and directing the work of a department or program
• Five years management and laboratory staff supervision experience
• Knowledge of radionuclide counting techniques, statistics, radioanalytical techniques
• Knowledge of gamma and alpha spectrometry
• Experience safely handling of radiological samples
• Experience with emergency processing of both low and high level radiological samples
• Attention to detail in analytical work and writing
• Writing and updating SOP's, Test Methods, QA Plans
• Knowledge of Lab Information Management Systems
• Radiochemistry equipment experience
• ICPMS, LCMSMS experience
• Analytical instrumentation and analysis experience
• Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
• Proofreading, editing, attention to detail

$25.68 hourly; can vary depending upon experience and qualifications.
