Job Description:

 The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) currently has unclassified Child Protective Investigator positions in the Prevention & Protection Services Division within the Child Protection Services unit.  The position is based in the Kansas City Service Center and may have job responsibilities in additonal counties as needed.   Salary starts at $32,760/annually.

 As a Child Protective Investigator you will:
Assess reports of suspected abuse and or neglect to protect children and strengthen family systems. Reviews preliminary data and in conjunction with the Child Protection Specialist, develops an investigative plan. Establishes timely face to face contact with one or more family members to gather facts regarding issues of alleged abuse/neglect. Establish lists of potential witnesses and their contact information. Conducts interviews with witnesses and obtains documentary evidence. Confers and shares results of facts gathered with social worker specialist and supervisor and assists in making case finding decisions. Prepares final investigatory report for review and approval by the Child Protection Specialist.

Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent and one year investigating, fact-finding or enforcing state or federal laws and regulations. This position also requires a valid driver’s license.

Education:   Education in communications, psychology, social work, public or business administration, criminal justice or law may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
