Job Description:  This is a skilled multi-crafted position responsible for Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration (HVACR) and electrical operations, installation, maintenance, and repairs at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility’s (ECF’s) Central and East Units.  This position is responsible for supervision of skilled and semi-skilled inmate workers.  This position assists as needed with other facility maintenance projects, including working on boilers and sheet metal projects.

Minimum Qualifications:  Five years of experience in the mechanical or building trades.  Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.  Substitution:  Completion of 60 semester hours of coursework from an accredited college with major coursework in mechanical or building trades and three years of experience in mechanical or building trades. 

Preferred Skills:  Five years of experience working in the HVACR trade or, at a minimum, two of the five years’ minimum qualifications experience working in the HVAC R trade.  R410A Refrigerant and Technician Type I, II certification.  Experience working with boilers and sheet metal.  Knowledge of the standard practices in the HVACR and electrical field.  Knowledge of safety measures and occupational hazards of HVACR and electrical.  Ability to read, interpret, and work from sketches, blueprints, and specifications.  Ability to keep careful and thorough records.  Ability to plan, organize, assign, and approve or otherwise supervise the work of skilled and semi-skilled craft workers.  Skill in the use and operation of tools, caustics, and flammables, machines, and equipment commonly used in the HVACR and electrical craft at the skilled craft level.  Skill in evaluating, analyzing, and resolving problems that may arise with inmate workers. 

Performance Standards:  To be successful, the expectation is that a candidate will be able to competently perform the routine tasks of the position with limited supervision by the end of the six-month probationary period.
