Job Description:

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment verification document upon hire. KDHE participates in E-Verify and will provide the Social Security Administration and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security, with information from each new employee’s Form I-9 to confirm work authorization.

Environmental Compliance and Regulatory Specialist (K0229186) in the Bureau of Air.

Reviews technical applications and emission calculations from assigned facilities for development of air construction approvals, air construction permits, air operating permits, and modifications for facilities. Applications are reviewed to ensure all necessary information (process descriptions, emission calculations, and regulatory requirements) are provided and technically correct. Upon completion of this review a draft permit is developed for the internal concurrence process.  Maintains contact with applicants for clarification of submitted information, to request additional information, to check source information, and to check emission calculations provided by applicants. Confirms that applicant qualifies for type of approval/permit requested. Review plans and specifications to determine if applicant has made accurate and appropriate calculations in their preparation of application.

Minimum Requirements:
Four years’ experience in an environmental field/program or a bachelor's degree in environmental science with an emphasis on biology, chemistry, geology or a related natural science.

Necessary Special Requirements:
Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.

Preferred Criteria: 
• Bachelor’s Degree in environmental or natural science
• Ability to organize data, draw logical conclusions
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Ability to read, interpret and evaluate plans and specifications for standards
• Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations relating to air quality
• Knowledge of chemical, biological, and physical characteristics of pollutants
• Knowledge of principles and practices as applied to the control of air pollution
• Ability to present facts, findings, and conclusions clearly and concisely
• Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
• Proofreading, editing, attention to detail

Salary:
$22.16 hourly; can vary depending upon experience and qualifications.
