Job Description:

The Kansas Board of Regents invites applicants to fill the position of Student Financial Aid Specialist.  The nine-member Kansas Board of Regents is the governing board of the state’s six universities and the statewide coordinating board for the state’s 32 public higher education institutions (six state universities, one municipal university, nineteen community colleges, and six technical colleges).

The Student Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for the administration of seven student financial assistance programs, totaling over $19 million, providing financial assistance to those institutions that are governed and coordinated by the Kansas Board of Regents.  This position is responsible for monitoring fund budgets and fiscal records for the student financial assistance programs, prepares reports that include data analysis, tracks compliance with statutory service obligation requirements for select programs, and processes payments using the state’s accounting system to schools for student awards.  Other duties include counseling and advising students, parents, counselors and postsecondary financial aid directors regarding rules and regulations of the financial aid programs.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED certificate OR Associate’s degree or higher, a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience, proficiency in PC-based software, including spreadsheet and word-processing, knowledge of accounting principles, strong analytical skills, attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively as part of a team structure.  The successful candidate must be able to identify and assess customers’ needs to achieve customer satisfaction and have well-developed oral and written communication skills.

Salary range is $36,000 to $40,000 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
