Job Description:

The Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs Office, a state agency, is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of an unclassified Social Worker Specialist for the Kansas Veterans’ Home at Winfield, Kansas. 

This position is responsible for providing social services to help individuals enhance their social functioning and resolve or ameliorate their social problems.  Provide specialized training, consultation on extremely complex cases or serving as an expert resource on a complex program or system of complex social services.  This work involves administering and coordinating a comprehensive social work program in a facility.  Includes assessments, reviewing, planning of social service programs.

          You must be a U.S. Citizen or National to apply for this position.  You must submit your complete application and all supporting documents by the closing date of the announcement (See “How to Apply” Section).  Must successfully pass background check as required by K.S.A. 39-970.  All employees (post-employment offer) at the Kansas Veterans Home are subject to the following regulation: K.A.R. 1-9-19(a) Drug screening test for certain employees requires (a) Any employee holding one of the following positions may be required to submit to a drug screening test in accordance with K.S.A. 75-4362, and amendments thereto, based upon reasonable suspicion of illegal drug use by that employee:….(5) any employee of a state veteran’s home operated by the Kansas Commission on Veteran Affairs, as described in K.S.A. 76-1901 et. seq., and K.S.A. 76-1951 et seq., and amendments thereto.

 Minimum Requirements:   

      Education - General

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work and Education, and a social work license from Kansas.

Prefer:   1) Master’s Degree in Social Work and 2) a minimum of one year of supervised social work experience in veteran gerontology or health care setting working directly with individuals.

Performance Standards:
To be successful, the expectation is that a candidate will be able to competently perform the routine tasks of the position with limited supervision by the end of the probation period.

Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate

KANSAS TAX CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE REQUIRED: Each applicant applying for a State of Kansas job vacancy must obtain a valid Kansas Certificate of Tax Clearance by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue's website at http://www.ksrevenue.org/taxclearance.html   A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual's account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws. As authorized by the 2018 Kansas Legislature, effective July 1, 2018, K.S.A. 75-4362 is amended to designate all positions with the Kansas Commission on Veterans’ Affairs office, to include both the Kansas Soldiers’ Home and Kansas Veterans’ Home as Safety Sensitive positions and subject to the drug testing program.  All applicants with a conditional offer of employment on or after July 1, 2018, shall be required to submit to a drug screening test.
