Job Description:

This position functions as a Registered Nurse on first shift (Donlen) for 190 bed VA recognized and CMS long term care and assisted living facility.  The responsibilities will include coordinating all aspects of the MDS and care plan as it relates to resident care as a member of the interdisciplinary team.  Duties will entail assessing/reassessing each resident on diagnosis, desire for care, treatment and services, response to previous care and his/her setting requirements, training staff, communicating individual resident needs with other shifts. In addition, directly supervising direct care staff to achieve the highest level of care provided to veterans. The position has the authority to plan and carry out assignments with little supervision.

Minimum Requirements:

Eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Kansas and one year of experience in registered nursing.  AANAC Certified or willing to become AANAC certified, minimum requirement of one (1) year or more experience with the MDS process including OBRA and PPS assessments and scheduling.

Minimum Competencies:

Knowledge of: 1) applicable Federal and State Laws, 2) accreditation standards and regulations, and 3) internal working relationships of the facility staff. 

 Ability to: 1) apply nursing techniques as directed to patient care situations, 2) coordinate the services of a staff of professionals to provide appropriate nursing care to a group of patients, 3) follow specific or general procedures and directions, 4) prepare and maintain records, charts and reports, 5) maintain a helpful and sympathetic attitude towards patients under trying conditions and to maintain harmonious working relationships with subordinates and supervisors,  and 6) supervise and instruct a subordinate staff of professional, paraprofessional and non-professional personnel responsible for the care and treatment of the physically ill, mentally ill, emotionally disturbed and or developmentally disabled.

Preferred Criteria:  

Prefer six months work experience with geriatric population.

Performance Standards: 

To be successful, the expectation is that a candidate will be able to competently perform the routine tasks of the position with limited supervision by the end of the probation period.
