Job Description:

This position will remain posted until filled. This position is located in Sedgwick County.

Job Summary:

• Collects evidence and submits evidence from inspections for administrative review, sometimes resulting in progressive compliance action as provided for by law against regulated facilities found to be in noncompliance. This is necessary in order to abate threats to the public’s health and safety by determining severity and consequences of noncompliance. Establishes times for correction of violations in regulated facilities by determining consequences to public safety and health of allowing conditions to exist until improved.

• Identifies risk factors associated with foodborne illness and establishes action to reduce these risk factors.

• Provides training for industry officials to promote and maintain an understanding of current food principles by organizing and presenting educational seminars using lectures, visual aids and infield training. Maintains and supplements technical knowledge in order to complete work responsibilities effectively by attending workshops and seminars and reviewing technical literature. Such training enhances the individual’s ability to perform assigned responsibilities.

• Investigates suspected foodborne illnesses associated with food establishments to determine causes and prevent further illnesses by using the ability and knowledge to collect and interpret necessary data. Collects and prepares samples of water and foods to determine quality and safety of continued use by submitting samples to the laboratory for analysis. Investigates natural disasters and transportation accidents affecting regulated facilities, food products or drugs to determine the degree of product adulteration and sanitary conditions of facilities using emergency onsite surveys.

• Conduct recall confirmations initiated by state or federal agencies of food and drug products at retail, wholesale, and points of manufacture in order to prevent further distribution of hazardous foods by invoking embargoes, seizures, or voluntary product destruction.

The territory for this position will located in the southcentral portion of the state and the applicant must live in the assigned territory.

Salary: $16.56/hour
