Position Summary: Unclassified State position with Benefits, $23.31hr., full-time standard 40 hr. work week scheduled Monday thru Friday, 7am to 4pm.

This position requires extensive travel within the state of Kansas.

Position Description: Incumbent will manage the KSARNG statewide Natural Resource and Cultural Resource programs.

Responsible for the planning, development, and technical field assistance of Natural Resource inventories and surveys, conducting field work as needed to gather data on sensitive and game species and their habitats, and overseeing contractors in the preparation of Endangered Species Management Plans for threatened and endangered species as needed. Prescribes and implements measures to protect wetlands and other sensitive areas from disturbance caused by training and construction using methods that do not negatively impact training missions.

Administers the continued review and update of the Integrated Natural Resource Management Plan (INRMP) for the KS Regional Training Center (KSRTC). Develops goals, objectives and annual projects to implement the INRMP.

Implements the Cultural Resource Management Program including requirements of the Native American Graves and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), and Archaeological Resource Protection Act (ARPA). Serves as Point of Contact for issues dealing with the management, including renovations and alterations, of KSARNG owned or leased facilities that are either eligible for, or listed on, either the National Registry of Historic Places or the Kansas list of historic places.

Responsible for Prescribed Burn/Wildland Fire Prevention Program, including planning burn activities, conducting burns, monitoring firebreak effectiveness, and programming for equipment and training including coordinating with local firefighting units for support.

Responsible for Pesticide Management Coordination Program, including tracking pesticide applicator certifications and training; coordinates the Environmental Conservation Program with Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM), and assists the range control staff with the ITAM's implementation.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a science field, preferably biology, natural resources, environmental science, ecology, conservation, or related field, and a minimum of two (2) years experience, preferably as a biologist, natural resources specialist/manager, or cultural resource specialist/manager.

Incumbent must be familiar with the use of Geographic Information Systems, have a valid drivers license, and possess computer skills including Microsoft Office software.

Required: Must have the ability to obtain and maintain the required Department of Defense background clearance as required for the position as a Condition of Employment .
