Job Summary: The specific contributions of the Activity Therapist I – Music Therapist are to: Assess patients referred for appropriateness of music therapy in treatment and assign appropriate music therapy groups and interventions as part of each individual patient’s treatment. Plan and provide musical interventions designed to help the patients develop healthy coping skills, improve social interaction skills, develop healthy ways to express and regulate emotions, and increase/acquire musical skills. Maintain ongoing contact and build rapport with all patients on assigned area to determine response to treatment. Encourage patients to participate in treatment schedule. Groups are reviewed for quality through direct observation, discussion during supervisory meetings, and participation in outcome studies.
Job Description: Provide structured music therapy interventions designed to help the patients 1) develop healthy coping skills; 2) build and maintain healthy relationships 3) acquire appropriate social interaction skills; 4) express, communicate, and regulate feelings, emotions, and beliefs appropriately; 5) facilitate developing musical interests and skills; 6) engage in healthy, meaningful leisure activities. Maintain ongoing contact and build rapport with all patients on assigned area to determine response to treatment interventions provided. Encourage patients to participate in treatment schedule. Write progress notes for assigned groups and individual contacts. Communicates regularly and clearly with staff across patient units, attends meetings related to patient progress and documents patient contacts within an electronic medical record.

Preferred Criteria: Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy with some experience providing therapeutic patient activities in a hospital or rehabilitation setting; experience in teaching/coaching/leading recreational or music related activities. Eligible to obtain MT-BC certification.
Minimum Requirements: Four years of experience in therapeutic recreation, horticulture therapy or one of the creative arts or therapy disciplines such as art, dance/movement or music therapy. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
