Job Description:

This position serves as the Job Specialist at Lansing Correctional Facility. In this position you will be required to work with offenders and other staff to prepare employment plans, including helping offenders with mock interviews, resumes, applications, soft-skills building, addressing cognitive distortions/thinking errors impacting success in employment, connecting to a mentor, preparing a portfolio reflecting work done inside and detail supervisors, access to job searches, access to pre-release job interviews, access to workforce centers, forums for employers to interview offenders, and other strategies to help ensure offenders are prepared to transition to services in the community to assist them in achieving sustained employment. Establish/staff/office in facility resource room(s), as the focus point for employment services in the facility, educating unit team, providers, volunteers, mentors, mentoring coordinators, and others as appropriate about the presence, role and services provided through the resource room. Develop and sustain relationships with parole, workforce centers, employers, mentoring coordinators, and other services and supports, to transition offenders upon release to community support to achieve sustained employment. Collect data as requested by supervisor and Reentry division; make program tracking entries/if/as appropriate; otherwise track information about work for use in determining services delivered, processes and impact. Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications: One year of experience interacting with clients, customers, or the public in a social service, customer service, or problem resolution setting. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications: A bachelor's degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences, and one year of experience working with offenders in corrections, parole, or law enforcement.  Additional experience may be substituted for education as determined relevant by the agency. Independent work experience in human services assistance.  One (1) year experience working with adult felons.  One (1) year experience in training/skills development. Knowledge of principles of reentry management and risk reduction. 

Minimum Competencies: Strong organizational skills.  Strong interpersonal communication skills.  Strong problem solving skills.  Ability to boundary span between areas of operation, and good process-coordination skills.  Strong presentation skills. 

Pay: Annual Salary $40,000.00 to $44,000.00 depending on skills and experience.
