PRINTING PRESS OPERATOR3837N1 Pay Grade: "See Index" DEFINITION OF WORK Summary This is skilled work as a printing press operator in the Division of Printing. The work involves setting up, operating and maintaining various kinds of lithographic presses to produce printed material. Work is performed in accordance with standard trade practices. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED Sets up and adjusts presses to establish proper pressure, margins and ink flow for the various jobs. Mixes inks using the Pantone Matching System. Insures that presses are inked properly and uniformly for proper printing. Checks periodically to see that the press is feeding at the correct rate and registering satisfactorily. Completes periodic quality control checks of printed sheets. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS Knowledge *Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, techniques, and processes used in a pressroom. *Knowledge of basic lithographic chemistry. *Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions. Abilities *Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. *Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory relationships with other employees. Skills *Skill in the operation and maintenance of sheetfed or webb multi-unit offset presses up to and including 28" by 40." *Necessary at Entry MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Four years of experience in operating various medium to large sheet-fed and/or web offset presses or successful completion of a four year Printing Press Operator Apprenticeship.
