DEFINITION OF WORK

This is on-the-job training in the operation of a Process camera, Opticopy, Pyrofax, stripping flats, and exposing and developing plates for lithographic presses in the Division of Printing.

Work involves performing tasks necessary to learn the operation of a camera for plate-making procedures and processing plates for lithographic presses. The work is performed under immediate supervision and reviewed in detail.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Learns to operate a Process camera to produce negatives.

Learns to prepare layout sheets.

Learns to develop negatives. Learns to assemble negatives in appropriate form with the aid of a layout sheet. Learns to opaque negatives.

Learns to assemble four color process negatives to industry standards.

Learns to assemble book and job work in flats for different press formats.

Learns to use vacuum frames to compress negative against plate, expose plate in accordance with recognized standards, and then process plate using automated equipment.

Learns to mix chemicals used in various plate-making operations.

Learns to operate Opticopy multi-image equipment to produce bookwork, multiple image color work, and negatives.

Learns to impose multiple signatures for Pyrofax. Learns to produce Pyrofax, camera direct, and heat fused plates.

Learns to clean and do preventative maintenance on necessary equipment.

Learns to expose and develop proofs per specifications.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
