Question: What is the difference between the Employment Registration Form and the Employment Application Form? Answer: The Employment Registration Form registers your personal data with the State. The Employment Application Form is the application form submitted to the agency when applying for a job opening. Question: I am an exempt employee who has worked my 40 hours by Thursday evening. Why do I have to work on Friday? Answer: Exempt employees are not paid for the time they work, they are paid to complete their work. The work of exempt employees requires their presence during normal business hours to serve their customers. Sometimes this means working more than 40 hours per week. Question: I want to take off Friday afternoon, but do not have any leave. I want to give up my breaks this week to take Friday afternoon off. Is that ok? Answer: Breaks are not a form of paid leave which can be accumulated or banked for later use. Unlike annual leave, there is no requirement to give employees a break. Breaks are commonly provided to employees, but employees are being paid for their break time. Employees can not forgo break to accumulate paid time off. Question: Our work group would like to change our work schedule to working four, 10-hour days per week. What does it take to do this? Answer: The standard work schedule for employees is 8 hours per day, 5 days per week (K.A.R. 1-9-2). Exempt employees often work more than 40 hours per week. Deviations from the standard work schedule must be approved by the Secretary of Administration.
