When making changes to positions, be aware that a change on one table may affect the data in another table. Use the following guidelines when making data changes:

If the change affects Job Data only, such as a Hire, Rehire or name change, enter the change in Job Data only.

If the change affects Position Data only (changing a Department ID, Location Code or Position Pool ID) enter the change to Position Data only. PeopleSoft will automatically update the Job Data by adding a new row if the Update Incumbents field on the Position Data pages is clicked ON.

If the change affects both Position and employee data, such as a Reallocation Promotion, enter the change in Position Data first, and then enter the promotion change in Job Data.

Position numbers are also used in the Job Data and Recruitment modules.
