Job Summary: The incumbent provides general mechanical repairs, remodeling, alterations, grounds maintenance and support to other trades with Facility Services. This includes assessment of ongoing preventative maintenance, assessment of needed repairs and completion of the repairs with, or without immediate supervision. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that work is completed accurately and professionally in each area.
Job Description: Maintenance and Repairs—Reviews work orders received from supervisor or designee and conducts on-site inspection. In case of major breakdown or complex troubleshooting situations, contacts supervisor. If need to shut down area or equipment, immediately notifies the area supervisor. Maintains and makes repairs to buildings and equipment, walls, ceilings, doors, windows, floors, cabinets, shelves, stool partitions, lighting, outlets, to ensure safe and aesthetic environment. Makes repairs utilizing safe practices in an efficient manner.
Daily Rounds—Makes daily rounds of assigned building(s) housing patients for safety issues and general maintenance needs. When issues are identified, makes repairs or takes steps to initiate a work order. If the identified issue poses an immediate threat the safety of any individual, takes immediate steps to secure the area and contact supervisor to address the issue. Assists in rehanging curtains, ensuring sidewalks and patios are clear, removing trash outside the buildings, watering plants, and exterior window cleaning. Documents findings on the Preventative Maintenance Log during Daily Rounds and submits the Log to the Facilities Services Office. Documents work performed on work orders and returns to the Facilities Services Office to close out work orders.
Grounds and Campus Maintenance—Assists grounds department by assisting with tree trimming, lawn maintenance (mowing, trimming, edging), post hole digging, and snow and / or ice removal. Must safely operate mowers, trimmers, vehicles and other equipment necessary to complete the job.
Remodeling or Alterations—Assists tradesmen in special projects to remodel or alter existing structures using safe practices. May require assessing problematic situations and developing practical solutions. Assists carpenters with the interior of existing structures by installing partitions, ceilings, windows, doors, floors or hanging sheetrock.
Preferred Criteria: At least two years of building/grounds maintenance with related equipment usage.
Minimum Requirements: One year of experience in two or more building trades or mechanical building trades. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
