This is an entry level field auditing position in the sales and excise tax audit unit of the Secretariat Division. The primary duties and responsibilities involve conducting field audits on businesses to check for compliance with Kansas tax statutes and regulations. On the job training will last approximately four months. After training, approximately 12-20% overnight travel may be required. Audits are located throughout the United States and involve a variety of industries and record keeping systems. Auditor is responsible for thoroughly analyzing the assignment, scheduling audits with taxpayers, traveling to the taxpayer's location, examining and analyzing taxpayer's records, documenting audit steps and conclusions, preparing detailed written reports citing specifics of noncompliance as well as related statutes and case law. Auditors have a standard 40 hour work week, with flex schedule availability. Promotional opportunities are also available.
The office recently relocated to Overland Park, Kansas. The facility is spacious, newly remodeled, and centrally located near 119th & Metcalf in the heart of Overland Park.

A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual's account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws. A Tax Clearance expires every 90 days. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from accredited 4 year college with 24 hours of accounting classes. Experience may be substituted for education as determined relevant by the agency.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Two years of experience in examining internal work processes, financial and operational records and controls to assess effectiveness, accuracy of records and compliance with statutes, regulations and professional/legal standards. Education in accounting/ auditing, business administration, or economics may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
