Job Summary:

The specific contributions of the Activity Therapist I at this facility will include provision of both individual and group treatment for patients on multiple treatment units.


Job Description:

Osawatomie State Hospital is seeking an Activity Therapist I. The incumbent predominantly provides group therapy, with an average of 4 groups per day. Time may also be allocated for individual therapy or assessment services as needed. Group and individual services are provided to help the patients learn, develop, and apply skills to manage stress, improve cognitive organization, or express feelings non-verbally.

This specialized position includes planning, organization, and provision of rehabilitation or socialization activities with patients through the modality of a specialized activity skill. Skills and approach may be focused in the area of therapeutic recreation, horticulture, music, art, or movement.

Communicates regularly and clearly with staff across patient units, attends meetings related to patient progress and documents patient contacts within an electronic medical record.

Preferred Criteria:

Minimum requirements: Four years of experience in therapeutic recreation, horticulture therapy, or one of the creative arts such as art, dance/movement, or music. Education may be substituted for experience as deemed relevant by the agency.

Preferred criteria: certification or eligibility for certification in the area of focus (if such a credential is available).
