Job Description:

The Kansas Department of Transportation is seeking a staff attorney for real property and right-of-way matters.  This position advises various areas within KDOT on legal issues relating to acquisition and disposal of real property; corridor management, easement and access issues; and reviews and drafts a variety of contracts and real-estate conveyance documents. This position also handles routine to moderately-complex administrative condemnation actions for right-of-way acquisitions relating to highway construction projects.  Salary range is $58K to $70K, DOE.   

Preferred requirements: 

Education and/or experience in real estate law including, but not limited to, the Kansas Eminent Domain Procedures Act, land use laws, title and deed issues, recording requirements, real estate contracts, easements, and other interests in real estate. Experience in reviewing and drafting of contracts and land conveyance/transaction documents.

Minimum Requirements:

Certificate of admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Kansas or eligible to take the bar examination in July 2017, and  temporary permit to practice law issued by the Supreme Court of Kansas at the time of hire.  Applications will be accepted through June 23, 2017.
