Job Description:

Applicants who fail to submit a Tax Clearance Certificate as required will NOT be considered. Each applicant SHALL obtain a State Tax Clearance Certificate by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue’s website at http://www.ksrevenue.org/taxclearance.html. Applicants are responsible for submitting their certificate with their application materials to the hiring agency each time they apply. Tax Clearance Certificates must be received before the position closing date. This applies to ALL positions and ALL applicants (including current S.O.K. employees).


DUTIES: 999 hour temporary position - Kanorado. May work up to 999 hours over a 12 month period with no benefits or leave accrual. Weigh motor carriers at a fixed scale facility, ensuring all vehicles are of legal size and weight to ensure compliance with designated laws, rules and regulations. Visually examines motor carriers, while being weighed for required safety equipment such as signs, placards, seat belts, lights, adequate tires, required flags, and ill or fatigued drivers.  Ensures loads are secure and special requirements, such as flagman or pilot car, are met.  

 Performs routine informal checks of drivers of motor carriers to ensure compliance of State laws by checking registrations, licenses, permits, driver’s daily logs, medical cards, bills of lading and insurance coverage. This may include checks for dyed fuel usage.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent. CVSA Level II certification must complete and pass a written examination in the practices and procedures of the American Standard Inspection courses annually in order to maintain this mandatory certification.  Once certified, must meet inspection requirements as outlined in agency policy.

Incumbent must be able to perform the following functions:
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

• Listen, comprehend and respond to fellow employees and general public via telephone or in person.
• Knowledge of dyed fuel
• Basic mathematical calculations.
• Multi-task
• Read and write comprehensively
• Visually inspect driver’s license, registrations, permits, medical card, etc.
• Measure axles, inspect tires, climb on and  crawl under and around trucks
• Stand, walk, bend, squat, stoop, twist, reach with body, arms and/or legs, lift, pull and shovel snow.
