Job Description:

Applicants who fail to submit a Tax Clearance Certificate as required will NOT be considered. Each applicant SHALL obtain a State Tax Clearance Certificate by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue’s website at http://www.ksrevenue.org/taxclearance.html. Applicants are responsible for submitting their certificate with their application materials to the hiring agency each time they apply. Tax Clearance Certificates must be received within 48 hours of the position closing date. This applies to ALL positions and ALL applicants (including current S.O.K. employees).  Email the tax clearance to KHP.Career@ks.gov Include the job requisition number and your last name in the subject line or fax to 785-296-7908.

DUTIES: Apply proficient knowledge and competency in the operation of the electronic security systems, video surveillance equipment, telephone communication system and fire system. Diligently monitor and interpret information received via the electronic security system, video surveillance equipment and fire system, and take appropriate action. Attentive to suspicious activity and acts of crime. Notifies appropriate personnel via radio and/or phone, to respond to locations of alarms, accidents and other emergency situations. Maintains a written log of all alarms, phone calls and radio traffic to provide a record of troop activity.

Utilize good communication skills when making contact with members of the community. Build and maintain good working relations with other state agencies. Establish and maintain professional contact with government officials, legislators, dignitaries, state employees, visitors, and all other citizens, to uphold the image and reputation of the Kansas Highway Patrol. Maintain certifications in CPR, first aid and AED (defibrillator). Attendance as scheduled is an essential function.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED. Ability to learn and comprehend the various computer, security and surveillance systems. Available and able to work rotating shifts and building assignments. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with fellow employees and general public. Ability to sit, walk, stand, see to monitor video and surveillance equipment, bend, stoop, twist, climb stairs, and to hear and speak clearly on two-way radio and telephone.                       

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: To be successful, the expectation is that a candidate will be able to competently perform the routine tasks of the position with limited supervision by the end of the probation period.
