PART-TIME PHARMACY COMPLIANCE INSPECTOR

The Part-time Pharmacy Compliance Inspector inspects board licensed entities in connection with the enforcement of the laws and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.

Residence / Duty Station

This position is responsible for inspections in the Kansas City and eastern Kansas area.  The designated duty station is the incumbent’s personal residence which shall require an in-home office that complies with the Board’s Telework Policy and Agreement.  Inspector must reside and operate from a duty station that is located in Johnson County or Wyandotte County.

The Inspector normally works an average of 25 hours per week from a home office. Days and hours of work can be variable, dependent on the business hours of a licensed premises and the work that needs to be completed, and will be agreed upon by the inspector and the supervisor. Overnight travel, pre-approved by supervisor, may be required dependent on the location of the home office. There will be significant amount of work time spent traveling in a vehicle.

Job Summary

The Inspector travels to inspect licensed premises, serve as an expert witness, and monitor probationers. The inspector also provides consultation and education to licensees, consumers, governmental agencies and others regarding a variety of laws and regulations related to the dispensing of prescription drugs and devices, drug diversion, practice issues and on matters concerning pharmacology, based on his/her training level.

Job duties will include but are not limited to:

Performing routine annual/biannual inspections (in-person) of community pharmacies, retail dealers, and other facilities in assigned area to evaluate quality assurance programs, cleanliness, security, packaging procedures, dispensing practices, recordkeeping practices and storage of drug stock. Preparing and submitting reports of all inspections, possible violations and weekly activity reports. Traveling to facilities in assigned region.

Assisting regional inspectors in conducting inspections or investigations requiring a second opinion or other routine help. Testifying on behalf of Board at hearings as directed by Board’s disciplinary counsel. Traveling to conduct assigned inspections, testify, or perform other legal functions.

Reporting activities to the Kansas Board of Pharmacy office, submitting a weekly itinerary, transmitting files, and accessing e-mail and other assigned technology in accordance with Board procedures.

Keeping abreast of emerging issues of pharmaceutical practices. The Inspector is required to attend and participate in specific statewide meetings, staff meetings, workshops, seminars and training sessions, which may be in Topeka, Kansas or other locations.

Qualifications:

Pay Range:  $16.00 - $18.50 per hour, up to 25 hours per week

The pay rate for the selected candidate will be commensurate with education, experience, and licensure.  This is an unclassified position without benefits.

Incumbent may be allowed to maintain other employment in the pharmacy setting upon prior approval of the Executive Secretary, and will be screened from any potential, actual, or apparent conflict of interest.
