Job Description:

Job Summary: The position exists to provide adequate support for the protection and security of the hospital including response to emergencies.  The duties include supporting a secure and safe environment on the patient care areas to protect patients, staff, visitors and property.


Job Description: Maintains presence of Security on patient care areas to assist in maintaining therapeutic milieu, de-escalating patients, supervising potentially violent patients. Responds to requests for assistance with combative patients, staff, and others.  Requests additional officers respond if the situation escalates.  Requests a Code II to be announced over the Public-Address System if additional staff is needed to assist.  High stress tolerance must be maintained by the officer. Patrols campus area on foot or in patrol vehicle, in order to provide for protection and security of state property, patients, staff and visitors of the hospital. Checks buildings for signs of entry, and locks doors to assure no unauthorized entry has or will occur. Questions the reasoning for unauthorized visitors, redirects, escorts and detains them, as necessary. Officer assists in addressing minor environmental concerns that do not require immediate response from Facility Services staff. The individual must be able to spend most of the 8 hour shift on foot patrol at the hospital to increase safety.
