Job Description:

The Kansas Veterans’ Home in Winfield is looking for a dependable individual to work as a temporary General Maintenance and Repair Technician on our day shift.  This is a temporary position, no benefits. 

As the Temporary General Maintenance and Repair Technician you will:

Minor Building Maintenance and Repair.

Work may consist of, but is not limited to: removing, repairing, and installing plumbing fixtures; installation of cabinets; replacing ceiling tiles; gluing carpet down on tile floors; replacing floor and wall tile; setting up work stations; application of caulking and other weatherproofing materials; replacing locks; repairing and painting walls and ceilings; cleaning and replacing filters in air handling units; preventive maintenance on pumps, motors, and compressors; and repairing or installing light fixtures, bulbs, and switches.  Documents such work as directed by the facility.  Repair and install a variety of electrical equipment using tools, equipment, and electronic testing instruments. Troubleshooting problems using basic schematic drawings, circuit diagrams, and tracking techniques.  Reports problems, repair proposals, and equipment requests to supervisor.  Obtains needed literature on equipment when necessary.  Organize work area.  Performs other assignments as directed by supervisor. 

Physical Demands:

The work involves hazards, risks and discomforts typical of working with machinery with exposed moving parts, heavy equipment, and with harmful chemicals.  Exposure to disagreeable weather conditions and extreme levels of temperature, ventilation, lighting, and sound are normal.  Safety clothing and gear may be required during performance of some tasks.  Serious injury is possible.  Moderate to considerable physical exertion is required.  Employee must be able to climb, bend, twist, stoop, and lift when working with electrical and hvac units.  Hazards exist with electrical and mechanical equipment.
