Job Description:

This position performs work as a master craftsman in multiple crafts or trades.  This position manages and participates in the operation, maintenance and repair of pumps, valves, traps and piping in order to maintain the integrity and efficiency of the steam, water, compressed air, cooling, and fire protection systems by performing necessary tasks associated with the maintenance of building's mechnical systems at a skilled craft level using appropriate tools, techniques and procedures in accordance with industry standards.

Troubleshoots repairs and/or maintains the HVAC systems in order to control the temperature and humidity in the Capitol Complex.  This is done by maintaining air filters; electronic and pneumatic controls, adjusting controls; setting thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical controls, replacing electrical motors; having knowledge of heating, ventilation and air conditioning theory and methods; having the ability to read specifications and blueprints and adhering to safety practices of the trade.

Diagnose and correct electrical problems to prevent loss of building electrical power.  Maintains and repairs high voltage circuits and transformers, switch gear and emergency generators and associated switch gear.  Work is accomplished using special safety precautions and equipment to repair high voltage switches and test the high voltage switch gear circuit breakers on a five year schedule.  All electrical work must conform to the requirements of the Uniform Electrical Code, which relates to Life Safety because all applications are used by some individual or group.

Conduct operational and preventative maintenance checks on all equipment and systems under the umbrella of the Capitol Complex to insure that all equipment and systems are operating as designed and detect, identify, and correct any and all malfunctions. 

Performs preventative maintenance including lubricating and repacking valves and pumps.  Replaces gaskets and seals, corrects pumping equipment misalignments, cleans or replaces strainers and filters, and services water/oil separators and other Real Property Installed Equipment. 

Participates in a variety of special projects/tasks as designated by supervisor directed at promoting and fostering an attitude of cooperation and teamwork towards co-workers and Division customers.   Performs other duties as required.

This is an unclassified position with benefits.  Position is open until filled.

Hourly rate $15.00 - $16.50 depending on experience and skill level of applicant.

Minimum Qualifications:

Five years of experience in the mechanical or building trades.  Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.  Must be able to lift or negotiate the movement of up to 50 lbs. and to work from scaffolding and ladders.  Must have a valid Kansas driver’s license.
