Job Description:

Health Chemistry Laboratory Manager (K0233888) in the Kansas Health & Environmental Laboratories.

Supervise the technical operations, testing and personnel for the neonatal chemistry laboratory.  Serve as one of the primary contacts between the laboratory and the Bureau of Family Health.  Under minimal supervision plan, organize and manage the analytical programs for the Neonatal Chemistry Laboratory.  Serve as the supervisor of the blood lead lab.  Assist in the daily operations.  Determine staffing requirements and evaluate program performance utilizing applicable monitoring criteria.  Work with supervisor in adjusting laboratory capacity and capabilities in accordance with analytical requests and program requirements to ensure that rapid and efficient test results are provided.  Supervise the testing operations in the Neonatal Chemistry and Blood Lead Laboratory, assign duties, review and evaluate work and perform annual employee performance reviews.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or biochemistry with two years of experience in planning, organizing and directing the work of a department, program or agency.

Preferred Criteria: 
• Experience in a Neonatal Chemistry testing laboratory program or clinical chemistry laboratory.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Genetics or other science field
• Master’s Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry
• Ph.D. Chemistry or Biochemistry
• Two years’ experience in management including budget management, personnel supervision, writing test methods and QA plans. 
• Qualified to serve as the CLIA Technical Supervisor within 1 year of hire
• At least five years of laboratory experience with emphasis in Health Chemistry
• Epidemiology/Public Health/other collaborative experience
• Leadership/team building experience
• Packing and shipping regulatory experience
• Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
• Proofreading, editing, attention to detail

$2,054.40 Bi-weekly; can vary depending upon experience and qualifications.
