Trooper Trainee Open Until Filled - Applications for class beginning JULY 2019 accepted through December 2018

NEW! Applicants for Trooper Trainee positions will be allowed to take the written exam a maximum of three (3) times before being disqualified from the current hiring process. Applicants that have any tattoo, scarification or brand that appear on the head, face, neck, hands or arms (below the bottom of the bicep) will automatically be disqualified and will not be permitted to take the written exam. (As a general rule, any marking(s) visible when wearing a short-sleeved v-neck shirt is an automatic disqualifier.)

Applicants who fail to submit a Tax Clearance Certificate will NOT be considered. Each applicant SHALL obtain a State Tax Clearance Certificate by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue’s website Two (2) times at http://www.ksrevenue.org/taxclearance.html. Once to apply for the certificate and once to retrieve it. Applicants are responsible for submitting their certificate with their application materials to the hiring agency each time they apply. Tax Clearance Certificates must be received within 48 hours of the position closing date. This applies to ALL positions and ALL applicants (including current S.O.K. employees). DUTIES: Enforces Kansas traffic and vehicle laws. Position’s available statewide. Must be willing to live and work anywhere in Kansas. Applicants must pass written exam, polygraph, background investigation, personal interview, physical abilities course, psychological test, and physical requirements.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license.


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be a United States citizen and at least 21 years of age. Each applicant applying for a State of Kansas job vacancy must obtain a State Tax Clearance Certificate. Must complete a basic law enforcement training program recognized by the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Commission and obtain certification as a law enforcement officer from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Commission before being given permanent status. At time of appointment, candidate must take and pass a drug screening test approved by the Division of Personnel Services and be required to pass a physical and psychological exam administered by the hiring agency. This class requires the use of a firearm for law enforcement duties and therefore, candidates cannot have been convicted of, and must be free of any diversions from, a felony or misdemeanor domestic violence crime as set forth in 18 U.S.C. § 922 (d) (9) and (g) (9).
