Job Description: This position is responsible for performing all duties through a team approach to risk management that addresses criminogenic indicators and needs.  The work of this position requires ongoing proactive communication and interaction with inmates. Assists inmates assigned to caseload with adjustment to incarceration, program completion, rule compliance, release planning and reintegration into the community. Utilizes and demonstrates risk reduction skills including motivational interviewing and cognitive strategies. Attends Kansas Parole Board hearings for assigned inmates.  Assists uniformed security staff in times of emergency.

Pay: Pay Grade 23; Starting annual salary: $34,444.80

Minimum Requirements: A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences.  Experience may be substituted for the required education as determined relevant by the agency. Substitutions deemed relevant are completion of 60 semester hours of coursework from an accredited college or university, including 12 hours in corrections, criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences, and two years of experience in the field of adult corrections may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree

Minimum Competencies: Applicant will be able to interact with co-workers, inmates and outside personnel to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Applicant selected will have strong organizational skills and function with minimal supervision and direction. Necessary Qualifications: Must be able to perform the essential physical functions of the position.

Preferred Skills: Preference will be given to those applicants with previous experience in corrections.

How You Will Be Evaluated: Once you complete and submit your application materials, your application will be reviewed to ensure you meet the minimum and any necessary special requirements.  Next, your application will be evaluated and rated based on preferred competencies and criteria for the position.

What To Expect Next: Applicants selected for interview will be evaluated by an interview panel using performance/behavior based interview questions.  The interview panel will make recommendations to the Warden for final approval.  A second interview may be conducted.  Candidates will be subject to a job reference check, background and criminal history investigation, drug screen and TB test. You may be expected to pass a physical. Information provided on your application/resume will be verified. Follow all instructions carefully. Errors or omissions may affect your rating or consideration for employment.
