Job Description:

The State of Kansas, Board of Indigents’ Defense Services, is seeking to fill the Mitigation Specialist/Attorney position with the Capital Habeas Office. Applicants for this position should have a background in social work and/or psychology; be able to investigate the facts and circumstances of the crime and client’s life story via gathering of documentary evidence and witness interviewing; have experience in preparing social histories and chronologies; be able to obtain and analyze anecdotal and documentary evidence relevant to the client’s life history, including but not limited to: medical and psychiatric history, trauma history, educational history, employment history, multigenerational family history, genetic disorders, prior adult and juvenile correctional experience, religious, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic, racial, cultural and community influences as well as socio-economic factors. Applicants should have the qualifications by training and/or experience to screen for the presence of mental or psychological disorders or impairments and be able to assist in identifying and working with experts. Applicants must be team oriented, willing to work under supervision yet able to work independently. Significant travel, both in state and out of Kansas, is required.

Salary: $54,000 to $63,019 Dependent on Experience
