Job Summary:

In support of the division’s mission to develop and analyze water management strategies on basin and regional scales, the employee will use a variety of water rights and hydrologic information from a variety of sources to produce decision support products including, maps, charts, tables, and narratives to help explain the causes of water resource challenges and to help understand the effects of proposed management strategies.  This work will involve the use of Microsoft Excel, ArcGIS Pro, MODFLOW, and other computer software tools. The employee will work with a variety of project team members and partners including: division headquarters and field office staff, other state agencies, federal agencies such as Reclamation, USACE, and USGS, groundwater management district staff, municipalities, and consultants.

The employee will assemble and review water use data, water quality data, and any other relevant data, and will aid in drafting reports on the performances of the IGUCAs. The employee will also participate in the public hearing process for the IGUCA reviews which may include providing testimony on the facts determined in the agency’s review.

All Kansas water right holders, excepting domestic water rights, are required to submit annual water use reports to the division of water resources. Municipal water use reports include extensive details that require additional processing. The employee will process the municipal water use reports and follow up with municipal staff as needed to ensure that the water use data is correct and complete.

Salary: $49,697/year


Bachelor’s degree in engineering and an Engineer in Training or Fundamentals of Engineering certificate and a valid driver’s license
