Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate: 
Each applicant applying for a State of Kansas job vacancy must obtain a State Tax Clearance Certificate by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue's website at http://www.ksrevenue.org/taxclearance.html.  A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual's account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws. A Tax Clearance expires every 90 days. All applicants, including current State employees, are responsible for submitting a valid and up to date certificate with all other application materials to the hiring agency. The position you are viewing is located in the Bureau of Transportation Safety & Technology in Topeka.  This is a full-time, unclassified position with benefits.  Pay begins at $13.95 per hour, depending on experience and/or the skill level of the applicant.  Upon successful completion of the one-year program, the incumbent will promote to an Engineering Technician and receive approximately a 10% pay increase.

An Engineering Technician Associate is the entry level for the Engineering Technician class series.  Successful candidates may be appointed at a higher-level dependent upon experience and qualifications.  All new ETAs must participate in the ET progression program.

Plotting, Layout and Detailing: Notes and details developed by the engineers or upper level technicians are carefully and accurately depicted on the plans using computer aided drafting software (CAD). Activities might include duties for the following sections within the Bureau of TS&T: Signing, Temporary Traffic Control, Traffic Engineering (Intersections, Lighting, Signals, Striping). Skill Development: Develop basic skills to become an Engineering Technician in the Bureau of TS&T. The employee will participate in formal class room training as it becomes available, one-on-one training by staff in the design squad, and on-the-job training by completing actual work projects. The employee will develop fundamental skills in the appropriate use of electronic files used during the design process. The employee will have one year to complete training courses to fulfill the requisite criteria to gain Engineering Technician status. The employee will work directly with the State Signing Engineer to monitor project deadlines and progress for the entire Bureau. Activities include attending project status meetings, using project management software, and generating status reports for the Bureau.

Essential Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Received a passing grade in high school algebra.  You can self-certify by submitting a statement that you passed High School Algebra.

Preferred Requirements:
• One year of experience in engineering technical support.  Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.  Transcripts MUST be provided to substitute education.
• Experience in the use of CADD and computer applications.
• Familiarity with basic traffic signing principles.
