Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate: 
Each applicant applying for a State of Kansas job vacancy must obtain a State Tax Clearance Certificate by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue's website at http://www.ksrevenue.org/taxclearance.html.  A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual's account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws. A Tax Clearance expires every 90 days. All applicants, including current State employees, are responsible for submitting a valid and up to date certificate with all other application materials to the hiring agency. The position you are viewing is located in the Bureau of Structures & Geotechnical Services in Topeka.  This is a full-time, unclassified position with benefits.  Pay begins at $13.95 per hour, depending on experience and/or the skill level of the applicant

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position assists with geotechnical investigations and performs laboratory and field testing of soil and rock.  Laboratory Testing – Assist others with performing all laboratory tests conducted in the Soils Lab. Tests are used to determine the strength, permeability, in situ moisture and density, and index properties of soil and rock. Testing mainly consists of moisture/density determination, unconfined compression, direct and/or residual shear, one-dimensional consolidation and swell, triaxial shear, permeability, resilient modulus, slake durability, proctor compaction, Atterberg Limits, specific gravity, and grain size distribution. Assist with the performance of field investigations using drilling, sampling, in-situ testing, and surveying equipment. Investigations are performed under the direction and guidance of an engineer, geologist, or ET Specialist from the Geotechnical Unit. This work consists of assisting with the operation of drill rigs using direct push rods, continuous flight augers, hollow stem augers with accompanying sampling equipment, and bedrock and pavement coring equipment.
This position is subject to pre-employment physical testing.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

Essential Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Requirements:
• Experience in engineering technical support work.
• Education in engineering, engineering technology, mathematics, drafting and/or surveying.
