The marble in the House of Representatives is from Tennessee. Wainscoting on the east wall is made of many kinds of imported marble trimmed with Italian Carrara. Panels of Brocelian marble with Belgian black marble are in the base of the columns. Several pieces of marble in the east wall are jasper, a variety of quartz. The speakers stand is made of walnut surmounted with hand-carved urns of solid walnut.

The House of Representatives has recently undergone a restoration. The project started in July of 1998 with the stripping of the paint on the walls. Samples were taken so the original color scheme of the House could be determined. Work then began on restoring the house back to its original decorative scheme of the late 1800's. The project took approximately 5 months to complete. A large part of the project was the restoration of the ceiling murals. Above you will find photographs of some of the work that was done.
